Hello, my name is PyromaniacalSunrise (@flamaniax on Discord), and I am the Team Leader for the Music Team!
Before continuing with this doc, please read the General Onboarding Document.
What We Do
Section titled “What We Do”The Music Team creates, modifies, and optimizes music and SFX for the project, based on the ones found in Persona 3 FES, to both leave our mark on the history of Persona 3, and to avoid copyright issues with the original developers (that being Atlus co. and SEGA).
Contributions
Section titled “Contributions”The process of assigning tasks is self-directed. You'll need to select a song assigned to the current milestone under the Roadmap or Music Production Tracker, make an issue on GitHub Project Board under the “New” tab (if the issue already doesn’t exist) & assign yourself. After assigning the GitHub issue, add the issue’s link to the Music Production Tracker.
NOTE: Pre-existing issues can be found under the “Ready” tab. Sometimes, team leads will ask you to do some issues as well.
As you are working you feel free to upload your work to the #music-lounge for feedback. As you create WIP tracks, please upload your WIP tracks as mp4 files under the associated GitHub issue in the GitHub Project Board as a new comment.
TIP: You can export your music as an mp3. Just change the file extension to .mp4 and upload!
Once you’ve finished the task, received feedback from the Discord, and have been given the OK, you can upload the final files to the Music team’s folder in Google Drive.
Make sure that you strictly follow the Roadmap (general project organization) and the Music Production Tracker (music team organization). If you want to work on an issue that isn’t on the roadmap/production tracker, make sure you get approval from the team lead (flamaniax) or the project lead (thebosst).
All Music team members are required to read Music Team Reference.
AI Usage Policy
Section titled “AI Usage Policy”There will be NO usage of Generative AI within the Music Team. Anyone found to be using it to produce music for the project will be kicked from the team, and have their contributions removed.
We use a rather free-form system, where every member uses the Digital Audio Workstation (or DAW) that they are familiar with. However, we have a strict policy of using instruments that were either directly used in the creation of the original tracks OR that came from around that time period, to closely resemble the tone and vibes of the game.
Ergo, we recommend a DAW that can accept outside VSTs, like Ableton, Reaper, Logic, FL Studio, etc. More specifically, we would prefer if you can use Logic, due to the in-built libraries being used to compose the tracks.
As for VSTs, we maintain a list of VSTs and sample packs confirmed to have been used by Shoji Meguro in the composition and creation of the Persona 3 Soundtrack, which you can find on the Music Team Reference.
How to Access Our Assets
Section titled “How to Access Our Assets”Go to the Music Team Reference to find links to the various VSTs and Sample packs that we use, along with a link to a program called CDXtract, which can be used to rip out the .wav samples from the .iso files.
After downloading CDXtract and using the keys to unlock it, you can import the .iso files into the program to extract the samples, either individually or as a folder for Kontakt.
